FRUIT OF THEIR LABOR
A MULTIMEDIA PROJECT ABOUT THE H2A VISA PROGRAM
THE STORY
Migrant farmworkers are the lifeblood of an industry that contributes $84 billion to North Carolina's economy. Their journey is long, their work is thankless and they're caught in the middle of America's heated debate on Jobs & Immigration.
Starting in rural Mexico, we follow the story of two H2A workers and their families as they prepare for another 9-month rotation on two different North Carolina farms.
FRUIT OF THEIR LABOR attempts to humanize the H2A program by asking the questions -- who are they, where are they from, who are their families and what are their hopes as they seek out opportunity in a country that finds itself increasingly hostile to them.
Capturing the journey in Virtual Reality, Video and Portrait Photography, we follow our two characters as they navigate the complexity of the H2A program, a 40+ hour bus ride to North Carolina and the rigors of the work itself.
